The Midas Project argues that this could lead to personal benefits for Altman at the expense of the organization. OpenAI was founded in 2015 as a nonprofit but has plans to transition to a for-profit structure. Elon Musk, one of the founders, has sued OpenAI, claiming the company violated the original nonprofit contract.
