Scroll Co-founder: Focus on Real-World Applications After Mainnet Launch to Promote Layer 2 Ecosystem Innovation

Scroll co-founder Haichen: The launch of the Mainnet is a new beginning, and the ecosystem will focus on real-world applications.

Scroll, as an open-source Layer 2 solution led by Asian entrepreneurs, has attracted significant attention from the community. After two years of intensive development and one year of testing, Scroll officially launched its Mainnet on October 10, 2023. As of October 27, the total value locked on the Scroll chain has exceeded 19.3 million USD, with the number of Mainnet wallet addresses surpassing 147,000 and the total number of verified transactions exceeding 860,000.

Recently, Scroll co-hosted the ETH Hong Kong event at the Hong Kong Cyberport, which is the first event in Hong Kong organized by the Ethereum community. During the event, Scroll co-founder Haichen Shen was interviewed and shared the development history and future plans of Scroll.

Exclusive Interview with Scroll Co-founder Haichen: The Mainnet Launch is a New Beginning, the Ecosystem Focuses More on Real-World Applications

Haichen stated that the launch of the Mainnet is an important milestone for Scroll, but also a new starting point. The team will introduce more features in the future to further enhance security, reduce user costs, and provide developers with more tools to support more innovative application development.

Regarding the reasons for choosing the zkEVM technical route, Haichen explained that zk solutions can provide users with stronger security guarantees and a better user experience. Scroll focuses on EVM equivalence, which allows developers to directly use development tools on Ethereum without installing new plugins, reducing development difficulty and potential risks.

In terms of ecological development, Scroll is currently focusing on improving infrastructure services, including RPC, indexing, and cross-chain bridges. Next, it will support the deployment of more DeFi applications and plans to build an open and neutral platform. Haichen specifically mentioned that the team will focus on real-world application projects, such as stablecoin payments and AA wallets.

Talking about future plans, Haichen revealed that Scroll will launch incentive activities aimed at developers, possibly in the form of NFTs, to encourage more developers to deploy contracts on Scroll.

Regarding the competition and development of the Layer 2 track, Haichen believes that the entire market is still in its infancy. He emphasized that in the future, it is necessary to further improve the degree of decentralization of Layer 2, enhance security, and encourage the emergence of more innovative applications. Haichen believes that the Layer 2 market is not a zero-sum game, but rather an ecosystem that can continuously expand.
