Scroll's co-founder interprets the Mainnet launch: technical advantages and ecosystem layout
Scroll co-founder Haichen talks about Mainnet launch and ecological development
Recently, the well-known Layer 2 solution Scroll achieved an important milestone with the launch of its Mainnet. During the ETH Hong Kong event held at Cyberport in Hong Kong, Scroll co-founder Haichen Shen was interviewed and shared the development history, technical features, and future plans of Scroll.
Haichen has a rich technical background and has worked on AI compiler-related tasks at a large cloud service provider. He was introduced to zero-knowledge proof technology while participating in Ethereum community activities and recognized its immense potential for Ethereum scalability, which led him to co-found the Scroll project with partners.
When talking about why he chose to hold the Ethereum Summit in Hong Kong, Haichen stated that it is to promote the development of the Ethereum community in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region. The event attracted nearly a hundred projects, covering multiple areas including infrastructure services, developer tools, and user experience optimization.
Regarding the significance of the Scroll Mainnet launch, Haichen believes that it marks a milestone achievement after more than two years of development work, and it is also a new starting point. The team has invested considerable effort in security optimization and third-party audits, providing users with a reliable asset bridging and application usage environment.
Scroll's solution based on zkEVM and zkRollup mainly considers two aspects: security and user experience. Haichen emphasized that zk technology can actively submit proofs, providing users with faster and stronger security guarantees. In addition, Scroll focuses on EVM equivalence, allowing developers to use Ethereum development tools directly without additional plugins, thereby reducing development thresholds and potential risks.
In terms of technical implementation, Scroll adopts a development approach that is closest to EVM, writing corresponding zero-knowledge proof circuits for each EVM instruction. Currently, Scroll supports multiple precompiled contracts, providing developers with a more complete user experience. At the same time, Scroll has been optimized specifically based on the Go-Ethereum client to ensure a high degree of compatibility with Ethereum's native APIs.
Looking to the future, Scroll plans to continue improving infrastructure services, including RPC, indexing, and cross-chain bridges. In terms of the application ecosystem, more DeFi projects will be deployed one after another. Haichen stated that Scroll is committed to building an open and neutral platform, without favoring specific project scales, but will focus on real-world applications such as stablecoin payments and account abstraction wallets. Additionally, Scroll will launch an incentive program for developers, which may take the form of NFTs.
Regarding the competitive landscape of the Layer2 track, Haichen believes that the entire ecosystem is still in its infancy. He pointed out that zk Rollup technology still needs to address issues such as decentralization and security, while also looking forward to seeing more innovative applications emerge. Haichen emphasized that the Layer2 market is not a zero-sum game, but rather has enormous room for development.
