Important Announcement: Kroma Shutdown & User Funds Withdrawal

Dear Kroma Community,

As many of you know, the original Kroma L2 chain has now shut down as part of a planned phase-out of the old infrastructure. However, safely recovering user assets after the shutdown turned out to be far more complex than anyone expected and without an active plan, many assets would have remained locked on-chain indefinitely.

What We’re Doing Now

Rather than leave things as they were, the current team has stepped in to protect user balances and build a secure, fair exit path for everyone. This involves:

• Creating an on-chain snapshot of user balances
• Deploying a smart contract for safe withdrawals
• Building a dedicated withdrawal page to guide everyone through the process
• Adding extra governance and security measures to ensure the process is trustworthy and transparent
• Coordinating a required bridge upgrade through the Security Council – this upgrade can’t happen without a successful vote, which is why it’s not being done immediately but will follow proper governance steps

These steps go above and beyond what was originally planned – but we believe it’s the right thing to do to ensure no eligible user is left without a way to reclaim their assets.

Why This Matters

When a network winds down, it can be technically and operationally challenging to handle user withdrawals properly, especially when the original framework didn’t include robust off-boarding processes. Instead of accepting that outcome, we chose to do the additional work needed to unlock funds safely for everyone.

Timeline

Once ready, users will have 90 days to complete their withdrawals.

Minimum Amount & Service Fee

Putting this recovery process in place is not simple – it demands significant development work, security checks, bridge upgrades, and manual oversight. To help cover these costs fairly:

• Balances under USD $5 will not be processed, as the costs exceed the value.
• A 10% service fee will apply to each withdrawal to support the technical and operational work behind this recovery effort.

We know fees are never ideal but this is the most practical way to handle a secure exit under the circumstances.
