Abstract generation in progress

The Bitcoin protocol Ordinals introduces the recursive inscription feature, bringing new possibilities to the BTC ecosystem.

Recently, the new chief maintainer of the Bitcoin protocol Ordinals, Raph, merged the "recursive inscription" update number 2167 proposed by the creator Casey Rodarmor into the Ordinals code on Github.

Recursive inscriptions are a type of inscription on the blockchain that possesses self-referential characteristics. Unlike the previous situation where each inscription was independent of one another, recursive inscriptions allow for the use of special "/-/content/:inscriptionID" syntax to request the content of other inscriptions, and this simple change brings about infinite possibilities.

For example, for a PFP (Profile Picture) collection containing 10,000 JPEG files, the traditional method would require inscribing each file individually, which would incur significant costs. However, by using recursive inscriptions, only 200 features from the collection need to be inscribed, and then these features can be requested through new syntax to assemble 10,000 inscriptions. Each inscription only requires a small amount of code to request features and programmatically render the image, which not only greatly reduces transaction costs but also overcomes the limitations on inscription image sizes.

Will recursive inscriptions trigger the next wave of excitement in the BTC ecosystem?

For those familiar with NFTs, a collection of 10,000 NFTs usually consists of dozens of components. Taking character PFPs as an example, common components include backgrounds, hats, hair accessories, eyes, pendants, clothes, pants, shoes, etc. The traditional method is to first combine these components into 10,000 images and then upload them, while recursive inscriptions only require uploading these components and then invoking and combining them through syntax. This method not only significantly reduces costs but also provides more possibilities for creation.

The emergence of recursive inscriptions has brought multiple possibilities to the BTC ecosystem:

  1. Composable NFT/inscription collection: Similar to the secondary creation of blue-chip projects like AIMoonbird that emerged after the launch of Moonbird, recursive inscriptions will greatly enhance the composability of artistic creations, bringing new opportunities to fields such as artworks, digital assets, and on-chain games.

  2. Decentralized Websites: With the addition of "JS" and "CSS" inscription types, dynamic websites that may exist on decentralized networks and never disappear may emerge in the future.

  3. Fragmentation of NFTs: The composability of recursive inscriptions enables the fragmentation of inscriptions and further operations.

  4. Domain System: With the improved composability of inscriptions, a domain name may not only link to an address, but can also host more content, such as web pages and point to included NFTs, etc.

Will Recursive Inscriptions Trigger the Next Wave of BTC Ecosystem?

Although the proposal of recursive inscriptions has only been around for three days, it has already garnered widespread attention and discussion in the crypto community. Whether this new feature can spark the next wave of enthusiasm in the BTC ecosystem remains to be seen, but hotspots often breed opportunities.

In the face of new developments, it is crucial to maintain a keen sense of awareness and curiosity about new things. Appropriate research and involvement may lead to unexpected gains. With the continuous advancement of technology, we look forward to seeing more innovations emerge in the Bitcoin ecosystem, bringing more possibilities for users and developers.
