The UK will reintroduce fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear weapons within the NATO framework.

Gate News bot message, according to IBT report, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office said that the UK will reintroduce combat aircraft capable of carrying nuclear weapons to support NATO's nuclear missions. Starmer is preparing for Wednesday's NATO summit.

The United Kingdom will purchase 12 F-35A fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear weapons to enhance its deterrence, currently limited to submarine-launched missiles.

Stammer said in a statement on Tuesday: "These F-35 twin-engine fighters will usher in a new era for our world-leading Royal Air Force and counter the hostile threats to the UK and its allies."

The statement cited NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte as saying, "I warmly welcome today's statement," calling it "another strong contribution from the UK to NATO".

Downing Street called it the "biggest strengthening of the UK's nuclear state in a generation" and added that Stamer would announce the plan at Wednesday's summit.
