"MANTA is more than just L2?" MANTA founder talks at length about project development, or becoming a bridge between Solana and Ether.

Abstract generation in progress

Manta Network co-founder Victor Ji recently took to Twitter with the topic 'What is Manta? More than just L2' to discuss the entrepreneurial opportunities of the project and his personal insights after DevCon. In addition to emphasizing the ever-evolving nature of Manta's core, Victor Ji also illustrated how Manta differs from other L2 solutions with real-world examples.

From Polkadot's public chain to the first modular ETH L2

First, Victor mentioned the entrepreneurial opportunity of MANTA. In 2020, he lived near Harvard. It was the Decentralized Finance Summer at that time, and he was engaged in encryption research and trying various income strategies. At that time, he accidentally heard a song called MANTA and instantly decided that this would be the name of his entrepreneurial project. The co-founder Kenny Li was a student of Gary Gensler when he taught at MIT.

In the past four years, MANTA has gone through four major stages, from the Polkadot era to Ethereum Layer 2, and has been involved in Celestia as the first modular blockchain. Now it is promoting innovations such as Gas Gain. The author adds: Gas Gain is a reward on the public chain for active users who use the network and pay gas fees.

Manta Network is divided into zk Layer 2 Manta Pacific for the EVM system and zk Layer 1 Manta Atlantic deployed on Polkadot. Gas gain converts 50% of the gas profit from Manta Pacific into $MANTA and shares it with the top 400 users with the highest project points.

Got the answer while riding a motorcycle at DevCon: The core of Manta lies in constant transformation.

He then talked about what Manta is all about. He said, 'Over the past two weeks, especially during DevCon, I have been thinking about this question. With over 200 new Layer 2 solutions emerging, I reflected on what sets Manta apart. Last week, I posed this question on Twitter and the community gave many insightful responses. The true answer, however, became clear to me while riding a motorcycle at DevCon: Manta's core is in constant evolution.'

This feature can be seen in the community operation of MANTA. Since the launch of MANTA, on-chain users and communities have been the priority, especially for emerging market users in non-English speaking areas. Active communities have been established in Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Turkey, South Korea, Russia, and China, and a Thailand community has recently been added. This strategy has successfully attracted many non-Web3 users. This strategy has enabled certain products released by MANTA in Indonesia to attract over 10 million visits.

The team comes from 15 countries, a community-driven marketing team

Victor Ji is studying public administration and international development at Harvard. He has been seeking ways to improve life and solve social problems in developing countries using blockchain. He is also a registered accountant in the United States and a research fellow at the Harvard Belfer Center. The MANTA team consists of members from over 15 countries and is a highly diverse and decentralized organization. They have also established a community-driven marketing team similar to the Solana Superteam, but with a closer focus on development and knowledge sharing.

It is worth mentioning that while Arbitrum and Optimism are developing in the United States, zkSync in Europe, and Scroll in Hong Kong, Victor Ji is in Southeast Asia, supporting student entrepreneurship and participating in Web3 education advocacy, bringing new users to Ethereum and the broader Web3 ecosystem. He believes that it is precisely because of the diversity of the team that this project can shine in developing countries.

Will push BTC and Manta for stake, founder reveals Manta's path to be a bridge between Solana and Ethereum?

When it comes to technology, Manta has never limited itself to a single zk technology. Their strategy is to constantly collaborate with other infrastructure to provide a better platform for developers and users. This focus on emerging technologies and strong adaptability corresponds to the ever-evolving spirit of Manta.

Victor Ji mentioned that as early as 2020, they had built a zk technology stack on Polkadot, which was two years ahead of Ethereum's zk Layer 2 development. By 2023, MANTA will shift to Ethereum Layer 2 and become one of the first projects to use Celestia as a Data Availability (DA) rollup. Recent innovations include MultiDA, CeDeFi and Gas Gain.

In the future, BTC and MANTA will be staked to enhance MANTA's economic security, reducing withdrawal time from three days to less than an hour. In addition to Ethereum's EVM, they also plan to support Solana's SVM, combining the strengths of the two ecosystems. The author adds that based on recent trends, perhaps MANTA will want to act as a bridge between Rust and Solidity, like Movement connecting Move and Solidity?

In the end, Victor Ji still confidently called out to MANTA, although it has only been four years, it is both young and mature. They have confidence in becoming stronger, rather than just another project that peaks at listing. Many Ether square projects focus too much on infrastructure research and neglect users. MANTA, on the other hand, is user-centric, bringing new users into Ether square and Web3, while embracing emerging technologies in the broader Web3 ecosystem.

He also took the opportunity to tease: "Unlike those projects on Polkadot with a three-year plan that resulted in outdated infrastructure, MANTA focuses on quarterly updates of user-driven products. This agile approach ensures that we are always at the forefront. Our commitment remains unchanged: to bring users in emerging markets into Ether and Web3, adopt cutting-edge technology, and continue to develop tirelessly.
