Vitalik proposes to implement a global "soft pause button" at the hardware level to replace the dangerous AGI race

PANews January 6th news, Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, proposed in an article related to the d/acc concept released today to establish a global 'soft pause button' to replace the dangerous artificial general intelligence (AGI) race. The function of this button is to 'drop about 90%-99% of the globally available computing power at a critical moment, lasting 1-2 years, to give humanity more preparation time.' Some users commented that they strongly oppose the views of Vitalik Buterin and D/ACC. Suspending 90%-99% of the computing power globally for 1-2 years without using military force to enforce it (which obviously will not happen) is a naive proposal. The chance for a gentle slowdown is slim. Vitalik replied afterwards: "Yes, I agree that this is a challenging task, but almost all proposals to deal with strong artificial intelligence are difficult to some extent. I think the key idea in this proposal is that it is less difficult than other pause ideas, because it is enforced at the hardware level, so key decisions are made before the high-risk period begins, and 'betrayal' requires the creation of new hardware (rather than just secretly flipping a few switches), which takes several months of preparation." Earlier today, Vitalik said that many cryptographic technologies can be used in the field of d/acc.
