Robinhood Markets (Nasdaq: HOOD), the platform offering stocks and crypto trading, announced the launch of staking in the U.S. on July 10.
Customers can stake Ethereum and Solana on Robinhood Crypto with as little as $1 of crypto, the exchange said.
Crypto staking is the process of locking up your cryptocurrency as collateral on a blockchain to help run the operations of that network In return, you earn rewards on your staked crypto assets.
Robinhood said that its U.S. customers can stake ETH and SOL to earn rewards automatically with scheduled payouts.

The exchange had already announced on June 30 that it was launching crypto staking for U.S. customers, which has now gone live.
Controversy chases Robinhood
However, it was the launch of tokenized stocks and funds for EU customers on the day that created a lot of controversy around Robinhood within the finance industry.
The exchange's suite of over 200 tokenized stocks consisted of some of the most highly valued private companies, such as OpenAI and SpaceX.
Sam Altman-led OpenAI was quick to denounce Robinhood's offering, saying that neither did the AI firm partner with the exchange nor did it endorse it. Any transfer of OpenAI equity requires the firm's approval, which it said it didn't grant to Robinhood These tokens are not OpenAI equity, it emphasized.
As far as crypto staking is concerned, the total value locked (TVL) in liquid staking reached $58.9 billion by the end of 2024, as per the on-chain analytics firm Messari.
Following the latest announcement, HOOD was trading at $97.44, up 3% a day.
Ethereum was trading at $2,822.30, up 6% a day. Solana was trading at $159.25, up 3% a day.
