Dialogue with Vitalik: The Innovative Integration of POS, L2, Ethereum and AI
On April 7, 2025, Yan, the founder of the DappLearning community, interviewed Vitalik Buterin at the Pop-X HK Research House event in Hong Kong. Here are the main points of the interview:
01 Views on POS upgrade
Vitalik believes that the prices of BTC and ETH are unrelated to POW and POS. One issue facing ETH is that successful applications on Ethereum may not bring sufficient value to ETH. There is a need to support applications that are beneficial to ETH holders and the long-term value of ETH.
02 PBS architecture and centralized concerns
Vitalik explained the advantages of the PBS( Proposer & Builder Separation) architecture, while pointing out potential centralization issues. He stated that risks can be mitigated in various ways, such as the Fossil concept, which separates the roles of selecting transactions and executing transactions.
03 Issues and Future Directions Between Layer 1 and Layer 2
Vitalik pointed out that L2 currently has issues such as inadequate progress in security and interoperability problems. He believes that L1 still needs to play an important role and introduced several solutions to enhance L1 scalability, which is expected to increase the L1 Gas limit by ten times.
04 Views on Cryptography and AI
Vitalik believes that ZK developers should focus on high-level languages without needing to understand the underlying details. Regarding cryptography applications like FHE, he stated that there is potential but also risks. On AI, Vitalik thinks it may narrow the gap between experts and novices, producing a certain democratization effect.
05 Expectations for the Ethereum ecosystem and advice for developers
Vitalik calls on developers to think about new opportunities in the Ethereum ecosystem, hoping for applications that have real value and sustainable business models. He stated that developers now have more resources than ever before, and as long as they find good ideas and execute them well, the chances of success are high.
