Berachain: A New Generation Public Chain Driven by Liquidity

Berachain is an EVM-compatible L1 public chain focused on DeFi, built on top of the Cosmos SDK, and adopts a Liquidity Proof ( PoL ) consensus mechanism. The project originated from the Bong Bears NFT series launched in August 2021, which subsequently spawned multiple related NFT collections.

The Berachain team, after experiencing the ups and downs of the crypto market, deeply recognizes the importance of Liquidity for DeFi, and thus decided to design an L1 public chain centered around Liquidity. In November 2023, Berachain launched its internal testing. On January 11, 2024, the public testnet "Artio" officially went live, with more than 30 native protocols currently in development. It is rumored that the Berachain mainnet will launch in the second quarter of 2024.

In April 2023, Berachain raised $42 million in funding, led by Polychain, with a valuation of $420 million. Although the team members remain anonymous, they have extensive experience and resources in the cryptocurrency field.

Core Mechanism

Berachain is built on Polaris EVM, providing developers with powerful tools. Using the PoL mechanism, users gain governance rights by providing liquidity to the DEX, while validators generate blocks based on delegated weight. This mechanism incentivizes liquidity, enhances security, and makes inflation more decentralized.

Berachain adopts a three-token model:

• BGT: Governance token, can only be obtained by providing Liquidity.
• BERA: gas token, obtained from burning BGT or verification rewards
• HONEY: Native stablecoin, used as a medium for protocol revenue distribution

This design further stimulates on-chain Liquidity, providing users with a diversified selection of staking assets.

Berachain aims to maximize liquidity release through an innovative three-token model and PoL mechanism, with the potential to lead DeFi innovation.
