Donald Trump's CBDC promise: I will never allow it
Donald Trump, who is expected to face a major presidential race with current president Joe Biden, touched on central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) in his election speech in New Hampshire.
"It is a threat to freedoms"
Trump stated that such money is issued by governments to control people and used the following statements:
"If elected, as your president, I will never allow CBDCs. This kind of money is a threat to freedoms. We will also take measures to prevent banks from restricting you and closing your accounts because of your political views. We're going to prevent that. When I become president, no one's bank account will be closed because of their beliefs or political views."
As it is known, CBDCs have been discussed a lot, especially in the last 3 years, with the developments in China. China, which is the most advanced country in the world in this regard, has recently started to use CBDCs in some of its regions and cities. China's attempt to switch to a social credit rating system with CBDCs has also been heavily criticized.
It is also known that more than 150 countries in the world are working on CBDCs.
