FTX founder SBF on trial, multiple core former executives testify.
FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried is on trial, with several former colleagues set to testify.
FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried(SBF) will go on trial this week, as the former cryptocurrency trading giant is accused of misappropriating billions of dollars in customer funds. During the six-week trial, the prosecution will reveal details of FTX's alleged illegal activities through various testimonies, internal documents, and emails.
The most compelling evidence may come from SBF's former colleagues and friends. After reaching plea agreements with the U.S. Department of Justice, they will testify against the former crypto tycoon. Key witnesses include:
Caroline Ellison
As the former head of Alameda Research, Ellison is considered one of the few people who truly understand the inner workings of FTX. She had a romantic relationship with SBF and may disclose information about the relationship between the two companies and the amount of FTT tokens held by FTX. Ellison has admitted to deliberately misleading lenders and obtained an "unlimited credit line" from FTX for Alameda. Her knowledge of the alleged sharing of client funds between FTX and Alameda could become a key point in the trial.
Nishad Singh
Singh served as the engineering chief of FTX and was one of the three individuals who controlled the keys to the FTX trading system. He was aware of the situation where FTX lent customer funds to Alameda and has pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including fraud and conspiracy.
Gary Wang
Wang is the co-founder of Alameda Research and FTX, and has served as the Chief Technology Officer of both companies. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission stated that Wang "allowed Alameda to maintain essentially unlimited credit on FTX." He has pleaded guilty to charges related to the collapse of FTX.
In addition to these core witnesses, the prosecution also plans to summon financial experts, scholars, and former FTX clients to testify. The defense's witness list includes business consultants, data analysis experts, and financial risk management specialists.
Some key executives closely related to SBF have not been publicly listed as potential witnesses, including former Alameda Research co-CEO Sam Trabucco and former FTX Chief Compliance Officer Dan Friedberg.
This trial will reveal many of the insider details behind the collapse of FTX and will have a profound impact on the cryptocurrency industry.
